All AIG students at Daniels Magnet Middle School have an annual Differentiated Education Plan (DEP) based on their Individual Student Profile (ISP). Parents/Guardians have or will receive these documents for Daniels Magnet Middle School and a description of service delivery options as described within the Wake County Academically Gifted Education Brochure and Manual, when initially identified.

AIG identification carries over from elementary school within WCPSS.  AIG records are sent along with the cumulative folders. We receive reports which indicate the names of our AIG students and their areas of identification.

Unlike elementary school, where AIG students work with an AIG teacher outside of the general education classroom setting, the middle school AIG services are delivered by the math and language arts teachers within the student's assigned class.

If you child was identified as AG in another school system, a review of all original identification paperwork is required. WCPSS accepts certain aptitude and achievements tests; students’ scores must meet WCPSS eligibility requirements. In some cases, additional testing will be required during one of two testing windows (fall or spring).

Mrs. Carla Hassell, the AIG Teacher, works with Student Services to ensure your AIG child’s placement. Students identified in Language Arts are placed in Advanced Language Arts classes. Additionally, students identified in the area of Mathematics are differentiated for through course selection.  This could be:
CC Math 6+ - all of 6th grade Math and half of 7th grade
Compacted 6+/7+ - available only for 6th graders meeting specific criteria
CC - Math 7+ - second half of 7th grade and all of 8th grade
CC Math I / CC Math II - high school level courses

Various ways Mrs. Hassell provides support to the AIG population include: co-teaching with your child’s teacher, push-in services for AIG students, and collaboration with teachers to plan differentiated lessons, activities, and projects. She will also support student who demonstrate need for pullout and/or further enrichment and extension opportunities. Services vary depending on course offerings and student performance.
